To be eligible for a substitute assignment, an individual must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school credential and participate in the training session. Candidates must also complete an application with Source4Teachers, a third-party company who manages our substitute teacher program.
Before an applicant's name is added to the official substitute list, the district will conduct a criminal history search. The results of this search will affect employment as a substitute teacher.
Substitute teachers serve in the absence of regular teachers and may be employed when notified by a school principal/supervisor or his/her designee. To as great an extent as possible, substitute teachers should possess the training and experience to ensure that students receive uninterrupted instruction when the regular teacher has to be absent. Although a certified teacher is preferred, an individual with a high school diploma from an accredited high school (or its equivalent - GED) will meet the minimum educational requirements.
Substitutes must be available for work and able to respond on short notice. They also must be available to participate in the district’s inservice program for substitute
The principal/director has the responsibility for evaluating the effectiveness of each substitute teacher employed in his/her school.
