General Technology Curriculum Instruction
Students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade concentrate on acquiring beginning computing skills with a strong focus on learning the parts of the computer, developing typing and word-processing skills. Students will learn to type upper and lowercase letters, numbers, punctuation, change font sizes and styles, add colors as well as insert, size,and position clipart, add page borders and type complete sentences. Students also learn to open, close, save,and print documents. Students will explore their creativity with Active Primary, and MS Paint, and other software as we explore Web 2.0 online free shareware.
Second and third graders expand on their basic typing and word-processing skills and start to use spreadsheet and presentation software such as MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and Photo Story to name a few. They will use this software to work on research projects in English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.
Fourth and Fifth graders combine their knowledge of the various software and hardware as well as their creativity and academic knowledge to enhance their research projects and technical writing in the various subject areas. The internet is used by all grades for research as well as reinforcement of skills learned in class. Photo editing, video capturing and editing will also be explored as the opportunities arise. Internet safety and responsible use of the internet is also taught to all students.
