The Clover School District Board of Trustees approved the 2017-2018 academic calendar Monday evening, March 20, at the district's monthly board meeting.
In 2017, the district will start school on Thursday, August 17th. This is based on the signing of Senate Bill 338 that will allow school districts the opportunity to start school earlier than South Carolina’s third Monday in August law.
This bill was presented to both the house and the senate because of the total solar eclipse that will cross the upstate of South Carolina on Monday, August 21. Throughout the state, educators sought the ability to explore a very rare opportunity to teach students how to safely view the eclipse as it passes through York County.
Moving forward, the state of South Carolina’s law regarding the third Monday being the earliest allowable start date will remain intact. S. 338 is a one-time special exemption that will apply only to the 2017-2018 school year.
Other dates of note include:
Thanksgiving Break: November 22-24
Winter Break: December 23-January 7
Spring Break: April 2-6
Last Day of School: May 31
Graduation: May 31
Within the calendar, there are 180 days of classes as required, as well as 10 required teacher work days and professional development days. Also required, three weather make-up days, February 16 and 19 and March 30, are built into the calendar.
Please see the attached calendar for all of the details on the calendar.
