Cyberbullying Q&A

  • What is cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is when a person is harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or threatened using digital technology. This is not limited to the Internet; cyber bullying also includes bullying through such things as text messaging, Facebook posts, comments made on other social media sites, sharing pictures of people without their permission, and intentionally changing someone else's work.

What can I do as a parent?
Parents have the obligation to help their child.  Parents should also know what their children are doing with digital technology.  The most important thing you can do is to talk with your child.  Talk to him/her about being a victim of cyberbullying and also about being an offender.  Don't think "my child would never do that."  If we don't talk to them about what is right and wrong, they may do something they thought was harmless at the time that could be seen as cyberbullying.  The second most important thing you can do is to monitor your child's activity online.  Have an open relationship with your child when it comes to online.  Share what you do online and they will be more open to sharing with you.
