The role of a middle school is to prepare students for life both in school and beyond. Students will begin learning about the 16 Career Clusters in the 6th grade. In the 7th grade, students will take a Career Interest Inventory. This information will be used in the 8th grade when students and families have their first Individual Graduation Planning meeting. In the 8th grade, the school counselor will continue to help students be prepared for the high school registration process. Students will further research their career paths. OMS counselors introduce colleges and discuss how every student CAN go! We aim to help our students be College and Career Ready!In the 8th grade, students experience going off campus for Job Shadow Day.

South Carolina Career Information Systems (SCCIS)
This is a career exploration tool that helps students at an early age begin to explore the world of work. Some special features of SCCIS: Students may begin creating an online portfolio, learn more about the Career Clusters, view over 500 occupations, learn about post-secondary opportunities, discover major sources of financial aid / scholarships for college, and so on. Parents and students may access the program by typing oms for the user name and middleschool for the password. -
Career Aisle
A student's career development relies on a quality career guidance program. Career guidance is a collaborative effort of guidance staff, teachers, family members, and community partners. These resources have been created to enhance the career guidance and counseling efforts in grades K-12. The resources are provided to assist with career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation of students with the objective of facilitating a successful transition into post-secondary opportunities and the 21st century global workplace.
