Boys Soccer 2019The season is underway and training has begun. There are 20 young men on the OMS squad that plan to put in the work to continue the excellence that was begun by the alumni for the past 9 years. The schedule is set, the players have been numbered, and conditioning regiment and ball skills boot camp is in full swing. Season-to-Date Game Summaries
Tuesday night, the OMS Golden Eagles ended the regular season on a wonderful note defeating conference foe York by a score of 7-1 and finishing the conference undefeated. After going down 1-0 in the first ten minutes, OMS got back into the game at the 20:00 mark on an unassisted goal from Gavin Egan. Two minutes later Tyler Williams put the Golden Eagles up 2-1 on an assist from Egan. Joel Patrautanu extended the lead, striking the upper 90, again assisted by Egan for a 3-1 lead. Tyler Williams scored again, this time from a wonderful through ball from Landon Thomas which led to the 4-1 halftime lead. Six minutes into the second half, Tyler Kozel scored, on another great assist from Williams. Gavin Egan scored another goal on another assist from Williams. Asher Fife scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Gavin DeRoller to close out the scoring at 7-1. Tyler Williams breaks the school record for assists in one season with 15. OMS finishes the regular season at 10-2 and will host Clover tomorrow at Clover Memorial Stadium for the championship beginning at 7:15.
Thursday night the OMS boys got back on track and defended their home turf with a convincing 7-0 win over Clover. The Golden Eagles got things started off early into the contest at the 2:00 mark when Tyler Williams netted a goal on a great assist from Tyler Kozel. Four minutes later, Williams assisted to Gavin Egan to quickly extend the lead to 2-0. At the 8:00 mark, Asher Fife sent a through ball to Kozel as he found the back of the net to put the halftime score at 3-0. After a few adjustments, Kozel again slotted a shot into the corner on another great assist from Tyler Williams. At the 40:00 mark, Williams again scored off of a great corner from Landon Thomas to put the score at 5-0. Not to be shut out in the scoring column himself, Landon Thomas found the upper 90 from 25 yards out. Gavin Egan was credited with the assist. Three minutes later, Joel Patrautanu struck the ball in the air as it flared into the top of the net from 20 yards out on an assist from Greyson Gabela. This closed the scoring out at 7-0. Grant Desart pitched a shutout in goal with 5 saves. OMS moves to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference. OMS closes out the regular season at home on Monday against York in another key conference battle.
Thursday night, the OMS boys soccer team were defeated 1-0 by a very technical and defensively sound team in Banks Trail. The Wolves packed the box the entire night, not allowing OMS to penetrate the goal. The Golden Eagles outshot Banks Trail 10-1 on the night, falling to within inches of multiple goals. The lone goal came on a penalty in the box, that allowed Banks Trail to score on a penalty kick just out of reach of the outstretched arms of Grant Desart. Playing well for OMS were Nate Noble as well as Tyler Williams, controlling the defense to not allow a goal off of a set piece or in play action. Trenton Palumbo and Gavin Egan had great offensive nights in the sense of keeping constant pressure on the Wolves’ keeper. The loss drops OMS to 8-2 overall. The Golden Eagles step back into conference next Thursday hosting Clover.
On Wednesday, the OMS Boys continued their busy week by traveling to Lewisville High School to take on the JV Lions. The travel down I77 led to a 5-1 victory over Lewisville and ran the record to 8-1. Before the dust had even settled, Tyler Williams scored on a great cross by Asher Fife to put OMS up 1-0 in the first minute. Gavin Egan found the back of the net three minutes later on an assist from Landon Thomas. One minute later, Tyler Kozel ran through the defense and netted the third goal of the game. Evan Coverdale scored the fourth goal of the game at the 17:00 mark on an assist from Williams that closed the scoring at the half to 4-1. Into the second half, Gavin Egan scored again on another great through ball by Tyler Williams that created the final scored of 5-1. Playing well on defense were Owen Jones, Michael Tomko, and Nate Noble. Showing versality and also playing well on defense was Jaiden Suddee. OMS wraps up the busy week by traveling to Banks Trail for their last non-conference match of the season.
On Tuesday night, The OMS Boys’ Soccer team stepped out of conference again to defeat Fort Mill by a score of 6-0 to complete the season sweep and moving to 8-1 on the season. 5:00 in, Gavin Egan netted the first goal, assisted by Evan Coverdale to go up 1-0. Two minutes later, Egan struck the back of the net again, this time on an assist by Asher Fife. At the 14:00 mark, Joel Patrautanu was in the right place at the right time capitalizing on a deflection and striking the ball to the upper 90 to set the halftime score at 3-0. Six minutes into the first half, Patrautanu found the back of the net again, extending the lead to 4-0. After a stalemate for 20 minutes, Nate Noble carried the ball through traffic, splitting three defenders to net a 20 yarder furthering the lead to 5-0. Tyler Williams closed out the scoring for the game at the 59:00 mark, assisted by Egan. Playing well defensively were Noble and Owen Jones. Brayden Bobak and Jaiden Suddee kept the backline in check with steady play throughout the game. Tyler Kozel kept the pressure on the Yellow Jacket defense throughout the match. OMS continues its non-conference play traveling to Lewisville High School to take on the Lewisville JV team on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the OMS Boys Soccer team got back to their winning ways defeating cross town rival Clover by a score of 3-0. Getting the scoring started was Tyler Kozel 8:00 into the contest on a great crossing pass from Tyler Williams to put OMS up 1-0. One minute later Trenton Palumbo was on the receiving end of a great corner from Landon Thomas to extend the lead to 2-0 which held until halftime. At the 35:00 mark, Tyler Williams persistent play and hard work paid off scoring off of a corner kick from Gavin Egan to put the final score at 3-0. Splitting time in the goal to preserve the shutout were Ethan Bolding and Grant Desart. Landon Thomas continued his steady play in the middle. Notable defensive standouts for this match were Nate Noble and Tommy Perez. OMS moves to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference. OMS hosts Fort Mill next Tuesday.
The OMS Boys Soccer team suffered their first defeat of the season Thursday night in an evenly matched game to Gold Hill losing by a score of 4-2. Gold Hill got on the board first in the first 9:00 minutes to take a 1-0 lead. At the 15:00, Tyler Williams’ corner kick found Michael Tomko on a beautiful header for the equalizer to tie it at 1 apiece. Ten minutes later Williams struck from 30 yards out on a set piece to put OMS up 2-1 heading into the half. The second half was equally battled with Gold Hill scoring on a deflection to tie the score at 2 apiece. A few minutes later, Gold Hill netted another one to go on top 3-2. The Golden Eagles had multiple chances to even the score, including a strike from Landon Thomas that hit the crossbar and was inches from going in. Gavin Egan remained aggressive on offense and kept the pressure on the Bulldog’s backline, but OMS could not even the score. Gold Hill put the game out of reach with 2:00 to go on a set piece to have the final score at 4-2. Playing well on defense were David Ringler and Nate Noble as well as Tomko. Landon Thomas did an outstanding job of controlling the middle and the match. OMS falls to 5-1 overall. The Golden Eagles head back into region play next Thursday hosting Clover Middle.
The OMS Boys Soccer team continued their winning ways by defeating Lewisville High School’s JV team by a score of 4-1 to go 5-0. Playing on a mud-filled pitch, scoring was at a premium the first 16 minutes as both teams were trying to get their literal and figurative footing. Breaking the scoreless tie at the 16:00 mark was Michael Tomko on a beautiful header into the back of the net set up by a corner from Landon Thomas. Continuing to play through the rough conditions, Gavin Egan took a through ball from Evan Coverdale to put OMS up 2-0 heading into the half. Five minutes into the second half, Egan netted his second goal carrying the ball the last 40 yards to beat the Lewisville keeper one on one to extend the lead 3-0. For the first time all season, OMS gave up a goal 4 minutes later as their forward struck a ball into the upper 90 from about 20 yards out just out of Grant Desart’s reach. OMS reacted well by not wavering anymore attacks from the Lions. Closing out the scoring at the 58:00 was Jaiden Suddee on a penalty kick to end the game at 4-1. Controlling the defense were Nate Noble and David Ringler. Landon Thomas continued to control the tempo with wonderful play in the middle. OMS travels to Gold Hill on Thursday.
The Oakridge Boys Soccer team continued its run with a 2-0 victory of Fort Mill Middle. Grant Desart and Ethan Bolding both split time in the goal still not allowing a goal scored in 4 matches. 8 minutes into the game Joel Patrautanu gave the ball to Tyler Williams who finished a beautiful goal inside post to take the lead. It stayed that way until the 2nd half, when Landon Thomas sent a beautiful through ball that Gavin Egan collected and finished for the 2nd goal of the game. This team is truly that with all players getting time on the field. David Ringler played an excellent game in the back as well as Nate Noble organizing the defense. Oakridge picks up on Monday against Lewisville JV at home.
Stepping out of conference for the first time this season, OMS improved to 3-0 on the season by defeating Pleasant Knoll 5-0. Although it was raining during the entire match, it didn’t damper the intensity that the Golden Eagles continue to bring. Getting the scoring started was Joel Patrautanu 4 minutes in to go up 1-0, with a great assist by Tyler Williams. At the 15:00 mark, Williams then found the back of the net with a wonderful header to extend the lead to 2-0. Asher Fife led to the score with an assist. Three minutes later, Tyler Kozel hit the upper 90 with an assist from Evan Coverdale. OMS went into the half up 3-0. Five minutes into the second half Gavin Egan connected on a score assisted by Landon Thomas. Egan connected on his second goal with a penalty kick at the 48:00 mark to close out the scoring at 5-0. After a busy week of 3 games, OMS plays next Thursday at Fort Mill in another non-conference tilt.
On Wednesday night, the OMS Boys soccer team moved to 2-0 on the young season defeating Clover 5-0 at Clover Memorial Stadium. After a first half stalemate, at the 15:00 mark, Landon Thomas ripped the ball into the net from 25 yards out to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0. The assist came from Asher Fife. That remained the score going into the half. After halftime adjustments, Gavin Egan didn’t waste time scoring at the 31:00 mark on an unassisted goal to go up 2-0. Two minutes later, Egan netted his second goal, this time assisted by Tyler Williams. At the 43:00 mark, Joel Patrautanu dribbled through the defenders and struck the back of the net, to extend the score to 4-0. Closing out the scoring was Evan Coverdale at the 54:00 mark to post the final score at 5-0. Splitting time in goal for the shutout were Grant Desart and Ethan Bolding. OMS travels to Pleasant Knoll on Thursday for a non-conference tilt.
OMS Boys Soccer picked up where they left off from last season in defeating conference foe York by a score of 1-0. OMS got off to a quick start off of a direct kick from Tyler Williams unassisted in the first minute to go up 1-0. After multiple attacking opportunities, Tyler Kozel found the back of the net at the 28:00-minute mark to go up 2-0. The assist was credited to Greyson Gabela. After a few half-time adjustments, OMS was able to move the ball around and continue the attack, with Tyler to Tyler connection at the 39:00 minute, this time Kozel, for his second goal, from Williams to put the Golden Eagles up 3-0. Seven minutes later, Colin Copeland found the back of the net on a cross from Trenton Palumbo. Nate Noble closed out the scoring at the 53:00-minute mark with a beautiful ball in the upper 90 to put OMS up 5-0, which would hold as the final score. Landon Thomas was credited with the final assist of the match. Splitting time in goal for the combined shut-out were Grant Desart and Ethan Bolding. OMS opens the season at 1-0 and will host Clover Middle at the stadium on Wednesday at 5:00pm.
