Mrs. Shavon O'Brien, Principal

    Shavon O'Brien, Principal

On behalf of all faculty and staff members, I would like to welcome you to Bethel  Elementary School, where we encourage all to S.O.A.R. ( Make Safe Choices, Take Opportunities to Grow, Celebrate Achievement, Respect Ourselves, Each Other and Our Community!!)

Our school staff members seek to empower students to develop a passion for lifelong learning and nurture them by engaging their intellect, emotions and natural curiosity. We aim to instill not only the skills specified in the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate, but also to develop student competence and motivation to promote ownership of their learning as well as their personal growth. Our daily work includes creating a safe and supportive environment in which all learners can pursue academic and social learning experiences and fulfill their unique potential. We offer a variety of activities outside of the instructional day for our students. Students may participate in programs within the school, including  Student Council, Honors Choir, Engineering for Kids, Scrambled Legs, Bucket Players, Battle of the Books, Recycling Club and a student run news show.

Our parents and community are a huge part of the success of Bethel Elementary. We believe parent involvement increases student achievement and enriches the school community. Bethel is fortunate to have a motivated and involved PTO, as well as many strong partnerships within the local business community. We also have support from our faith-based partnerships. Our volunteers consistently support our students and staff.  We encourage you to become a volunteer inside/outside our classrooms. By doing so, our parents provide valued attention to students, teachers and the school community. As we build upon existing relationships and forge new ones, we collaboratively support the social, emotional and academic well-being of each child at Bethel Elementary. Together, we make we can make a difference for all.

As a principal, I am committed to providing the best education possible to each of our students and I believe that every child can succeed in school. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns:  803-631-8300 or

Hello Bethel Elementary! I am excited to be joining this wonderful family as your new Assistant Principal. I am originally from Charleston, South Carolina.  I attended Winthrop University where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling.  I also attended Gardner Webb University where I received licensure in Executive Leadership.  This will be my 8thyear in education. In that time, I have served as an assistant principal, school counselor, academic advisor, basketball coach and championship winning middle school football coach.  In my free time I love to watch sports, play board games and spend time with my wife Tiffany and our one-year old son Grant.  I am looking forward to an amazing 1styear here at Bethel!
