Season-to-Date Game Summaries

  • OMS vs. Gold Hill April 25 (Away) CHAMPIONSHIP

    On Tuesday night, deuces were wild at Fort Mill Middle School as the OMS Golden Eagles boys soccer team won their second championship in a row as well as the 22nd victory the past two seasons. OMS defeated Gold Hill 6-1 to win the conference title. Dawson Malcolm got the scoring started with a header to the upper 90 within 5:00 on a perfect throw in from Logan Anderson to put OMS up 1-0. At the 11:00 mark, history repeated itself with Anderson again finding Malcolm on a throw-in to head the ball in to run the score to 2-0. One minute later, Dawson received a direct kick off a deflection to have a hat trick in the first 12:00. Three minutes later, Malcolm struck yet again on a direct kick from Matthew Young to extend the lead to 4-0. Dawson Malcolm had a double brace (4 goals) at the half. Defensively, Young, JJ Benfield, and JB Potts fended off any Bulldog attack to hold Gold Hill scoreless. The second half was a balance of 50/50 balls with Gold Hill breaking the stalemate on a beautiful goal from # 7 to close the gap to 4-1 at the 42:00 mark. At the 51:00 mark Sammy Al-Dandan scored off a deflection to extend the score back to four goals at 5-1. JB Potts closed out the scoring poking the ball into the far corner off a wonderful through ball from Caleb Welch. All in all, it was a total team effort with all “22” players playing extended time in the championship game as well as a fitting assist from #22 Welch to close out the game. Please congratulate these young men on a wonderful season!

  • OMS vs. Fort Mill April 21 (Home)

    Thursday night, the OMS Golden Eagles won their third game in three days advancing to the championship game by defeating Fort Mill 2-0. Dawson Malcolm did not waste any time with the scoring by splitting the lower 90 with a strong kick to put OMS up 1-0. Malcolm struck again with a direct kick at the 26:00 mark from outside the 18 to extend the lead to 2-0 heading into the half. The Golden Eagles remembering the last time they played Fort Mill with the roles reversed locked in the second half for an impressive defensive shut-out. Leading a strong defensive effort were JB Potts, Luke Anderson, Matthew Young, and JJ Benfield. Lukas Mandakovic stepped up with true leadership form the second straight game and controlled the middle neutralizing their center mids. Xavier Love attacked the Yellow Jackets’ defensive line time after time with pressure to take them out of their normal comfort zone. Logan Anderson continued to show versatility by bouncing between forward and defensive marker to maintain pressure on Fort Mill between the 18’s. OMS outshot Fort Mill 8-4 with each team having 2 corners. OMS advances to the finals where they will take on Gold Hill at Fort Mill Middle on Tuesday @ 6:15. Please support these boys as they look to repeat as conference champions.

  • OMS vs York April 19 (Home)

    Wednesday night, the OMS Golden Eagles kicked off the playoffs in grand fashion with a 9-0 victory over York Middle School. Xavier Love got the scoring started with an assist from Dawson Malcolm at the 3:25 mark to put OMS up 1-0. This time Malcolm was on the receiving end of a score when Caleb Welch placed a great corner perfect for Dawson to score and put OMS up 2-0. Logan Anderson scored on a breakaway for the next score. Two minutes later, Sammy Al-Dandan scored off a York defender’s deflection for a 4-0 lead. Anderson again netted another goal, this time assisted by Grayson Mendelsohn. Not to be outdone, Al-Dandan scored again on an assist by Michael Cohan to place the score 6-0 at the half. Logan Anderson again got the scoring going in the second half on an assist by Al-Dandan to raise the score to 7-0. That was Anderson’s 3rd for the first hat trick of the season. A few minutes later, JB Potts took a direct kick from outside the 18 and placed it into the upper 90 for an 8-0 lead. Caleb Welch closed out the scoring to put the final at 9-0. OMS outshot York 21-1 and had 4 corners to York’s 0. The Golden Eagle’s raise their record to 5-2 and await the winner of Springfield and Fort Mill game which will take place Thursday @ OMS @ 5:00pm.

  • OMS vs. York April 18 (Away)

    Tuesday night, the OMS Golden Eagles Boys’ soccer team closed out the regular season with a 4-0 shutout of the York Cougars. Combining for the shutout in goal were Logan Knapp and Coleman Davidson who each had one save apiece. OMS came out of the gates strong, scoring in the first 1:36 when Caleb Welch struck a shot with such velocity that it deflected off of the Cougars’ keeper and Xavier Love struck it in for an early 1-0 lead. At the 3:00 mark, Logan Anderson roped a throw-in from around 30 yards where Dawson Malcolm headed it in. Anderson was on the other end of the scoring at the 7:36 mark, this time receiving an assist from Welch to put OMS up 3-0. The scoring was closed out at the 15:00 mark as Malcolm struck again to extend the lead to 4-0. Playing very well tonight in addition to the aforementioned players were JB Potts, Michael Cohan, Ashton Glover, and Luke Anderson. Sammy Al-Dandan stayed on the attack with multiple hard shots that were not able to find the frame. This was a team effort in the victory as all 22 players got to play at least 15-20 minutes. OMS finished with 23 shots on goal to York’s 2 and the Golden Eagles had 5 corners to York’s 0. OMS host York tomorrow in the first round of the playoffs at 5:00 at the nest!   • OMS vs Clover April 6 (Away)

    On Thursday, the Oakridge Middle boys traveled to rival Clover Middle in a battle in-town Eagles. The Golden Eagles came out victorious in the contest by a score or 2-1. Getting the scoring started for OMS was Dawson Malcolm 5:00 into the game on a wonderful assist from JJ Benfield sending the long ball on point for an early 1-0 lead. Twelve minutes later OMS struck again, this time from a throw-in by Logan Anderson that traveled at least 30 yards in the air and was finished on a beautiful header by Riley Gallagher to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Oakridge had 10 shots on goal in the first half and were not able to capitalize on more. In the second half, Clover broke through with a goal at the 45:00 mark to cut the lead in half 2-1. OMS and Clover battled the rest of the way with each team having a few more opportunities to score. Playing well defensively were Matthew Young and JB Potts as well as Grayson Mendelsohn filling the holes in center and at the corner midfield spots. OMS raises its record to 3-2 while Clover falls to 2-3. Each team is slated to play York in the season finale’s after spring break. OMS finished with 16 shots on goal to Clover’s 6 and had 3 corners to Clover’s one.

  • OMS vs. Fort Mill (Home) April 4

    The OMS Golden Eagles won their second consecutive game on Tuesday night 3-2 against previously undefeated Fort Mill. The Yellow Jackets got off to a hot start by taking a 2-0 lead into the half. OMS battled 50-50 with Fort Mill for the half, but the Jackets were able to take advantage of field position and a great set piece from a corner kick to take the lead. In the second half, At the 36:00 mark, OMS got rolling with Dawson Malcolm receiving a long ball from JB Potts and carried the ball to within the 18 to strike the back of the net to cut the lead in half. Three minutes later, Matthew Young netted a penalty kick after Malcolm was tackled in the box to tie the game. Dawson Malcolm put the Golden Eagles up for good 3-2 by striking the far post from within the 18! The defense, led by Young, JJ Benfield, and David Sherer were able to close the door on any Fort Mill comeback. Coleman Davidson had two saves in the first half, and Logan Knapp had two saves in the second half. Fort Mill finished with six shots on goal to OMS’ 11 shots. Each team had four corners. Fort Mill drops to 3-1 and OMS raises its record to 2-2. The Golden Eagles travel to York tomorrow.

  • OMS vs Banks Trail (Home) March 28

    Tuesday, the OMS Boys Soccer team got back to their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Banks Trail. Lukas Mandokovic got the scoring rolling early at the 5:00 minute mark on a nice ball right inside the 18 to put OMS up 1-0. Three minutes later Dawson Malcolm struck a hard shot to the back of the net on an assist from David Shearer. At the 14-minute mark, Caleb Welch kept the scoring going with a nice shot on a cross from Riley Gallagher that had the score at 3-nil heading into the break. The second half was a defensive battle with both teams. The combination of Chris Lamparter, Mandovic, Grayson Mendelsohn, and Tate Hills alternated in the middle throughout the game and controlled the offensive and defensive pace. Roderic Parsons, although held scoreless, stayed on the attack with 5 shots on goal, pressuring the Wolves backline and keepers. OMS moves to 1-2 on the season and travels to York on Thursday. OMS had 11 shots on goal to Banks Trail’s 3 and 5 corners to the Wolves’ 2.

  • OMS vs. Springfield March 21 (Home)

    Tuesday night, the OMS boys fought hard but fell 1-0 in overtime to Springfield. The Golden Eagles had multiple attacks on the Mustang back line, being led by Xavier Love and Roderic Parsons. Grayson Mendelsohn and Lukas Mandokovic controlled the middle on the offensive and defensive side of the ball winning most of the 50/50 balls. JB Potts and Matthew Young kept the defensive back line in check and the return of JJ Benfield sparked both sides of the field. After a scoreless first half and second half, the game went to two 5:00 overtimes. OMS had a few opportunities but could not capitalize. Logan Knapp finished with 3 saves while Coleman Davidson played very well in goal during the PK’s stopping one, and getting his hands on two others. After a bye, OMS will return home next Tuesday to play Banks Trail. Please come out and support these young men as they work their way back into form on the pitch! See you at the Nest!

  • OMS vs. Gold Hill March 16 (Away)

    Thursday evening, the OMS boys team was defeated 2-0 in the opening game of the regular season. Gold Hill scored both goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half to take the 2-0 lead. OMS turned up the intensity in the second half, battling Gold Hill 50-50 but were not able to generate enough momentum to score a goal. Leading the defense were Matthew Young and Tate Hills. Devlin Glover played solid in the back as well. Xavier Love kept the pressure on the Gold Hill defenders, but to no avail. Coleman Davidson had six saves in the first half and Logan Knapp had five saves in the second half. OMS drops to 0-1 on the young season and will look to rebound when they host Springfield on Tuesday at the Nest!

  • OMS vs Fort Mill March 14 (Away)

    Tuesday night, the OMS boys’ soccer team took to the road and lost 2-0 to a very sound Fort Mill Middle School team. The game remained tied at 0-0 into the half with solid defense being played by Devlin Glover, Matthew Young, JB Potts, and David Shearer on the back line. Riley Gallagher and Roderic Parsons kept the pressure up on the offensive end. Logan Knapp had three saves in the first half. In the second half, the Yellow Jackets scored on a corner kick at the 34th minute to take a 1-0. At the 47th minute Fort Mill put together a nice passing combo to put them up 2-0. OMS had a few chances led by the tenacious pursuit of Grayson Mendelsohn and Parsons, but were not able to capitalize. The Golden Eagles close out the preseason with a 2-3 record and open up the regular season at Gold Hill on Thursday.

  • OMS vs Clover 3/9/17

    The OMS boys battled our cross-town rivals tonight at home. The scoring was starting off in the 17th minute. Matthew Young drove a direct kick towards the goal and the goalie was not able to handle the shot and OMS takes the lead. This lead was held until under 2 minutes in the first half, where some deflections and a shot from outside the 18 that found the side netting to tie it up at halftime. The second half was a back and forth battle that no one could capture the lead. The game then went to overtime where Clover was able to find the goal after some confusion and deflections in the box. As Oakridge tried to press the issue to get an equalizer, Clover sent one down the line and crossed it in to finish the game 3-1. Oakridge is now 2-2 with 4 games into the season. We travel next week twice and look to back from 2 tough losses.

  • OMS vs. Springfield 3/7/17

    Tuesday night the OMS Golden Eagles Boys soccer team lost 2-1 to a very game Springfield Middle. The Mustangs got the scoring started in the first five minutes of the game off a goal from # 21 within the 18 to put SMS up 1-0. OMS battled defensively the remainder of the half led by Matthew Young and JB Potts in the back and Grayson Mendelsohn in the middle. The Golden Eagles struggled to generate an offense but were able to stave off multiple shots by the Mustang attackers. The second half continued to be a defensive struggle between both teams with Springfield scoring a second goal in the 37th minute. Caleb Welch and Devlin Glover helped control the defense in the second half. OMS scored a goal off a penalty kick by Matthew Young in the 59th minute. Holding in goal were Coleman Davidson and Logan Knapp with 8 saves and 5 saves respectively. OMS falls to 2-1 in the young season. OMS hosts Clover Middle on Thursday!   • OMS vs Gold Hill March 1 (Home)

    Wednesday night, the OMS Golden Eagles ran their season to 2-0 by defeating Gold Hill 3-0. Scoring was kicked off at the 5:00 mark when Dawson Malcolm struck the upper 90 from 30 yards to put OMS up 1-0. At the 27:00 minute mark, Rodric Parsons found the net on a great assist by JB Potts to send the score at the half to 2-0. After a battle into the second half which saw both teams on the attack 50/50, Dawson Malcolm found the net again, this time off a corner from Caleb Welch that deflected off the Bulldog keeper’s gloves to close out the scoring at 3-0. Leading the way defensively were Logan Anderson, JJ Benfield, & Matthew Young. Controlling the middle and pace of the game was Grayson Mendelsohn fighting through defenders and fighting off attackers. Coleman Davidson had another clean sheet with 4 saves. OMS outshot Gold Hill 11-4 and led in corners 2-1. OMS will host Springfield next Tuesday @ 5:00pm on the bottom field! Come out and support your team! Golden Eagles need to be out in full force!

  • OMS vs York March 28, 2017 (Away)

    On Tuesday night, the OMS Boys soccer team defeated York 5-0 in the opening match of the season. JB Potts got the scoring going at the 15:00 minute mark on an unassisted goal after gathering in York goalie’s errant kick. Within the 28:00 mark, Xavier Love scored from a beautiful assist from Grayson Mendelsohn to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0 at the half. At the 35:00 mark, Roderic Parsons had a one on one with the goalie and was fouled in the box which led to a PK attempt. The PK attempt was successful from Dawson Malcolm to give OMS a 3-0 lead. Getting the start in the second half, Lukas Mandakovic took full advantage and scored twice within a 3:00 time span, one from right within the 18 and the other around 30 yards out to give the final score of 5-0. Leading defensively were Matthew Young and Malcolm as well key contributions from JJ Benfield & Christopher Lamparter. Coleman Davidson kept a clean sheet in goal with the shutout. OMS outshot York 18-5 and had 3 corners to York’s zero. The Golden Eagles, 1-0, open home play Wednesday against Gold Hill at 5:00 pm on the top field! Please come out and support these young men and their quest for back2back championships!
