National FFA Convention Results
This year 11 girls attended National Convention and competed in 4 different contests.
The Horse Evaluation team placed 14th out of 47 teams, finishing in the gold bracket! The National Horse Evaluation CDE is a competitive event that tests the students’ ability to select and evaluate horses. Event components include eight selection classes consisting of four halter classes and four performance classes. Students also gave 4 sets of reasons with two sets coming from each evaluation class. Teams also work together to compete practical activities and a team presentation. Team members were: Savanna Dixon, Carly Hall, Mary Grace Hopkins, and McKenna Johnson. Carly, Mary Grace, and McKenna received a gold emblem individually and Savanna received a silver emblem individually.
Our Poultry team placed in the bronze division this week. Team members were Blair Abernathy, Madison Adams, and Martha Ann Robinson. Blair placed in the silver division individually, Madison and Martha Ann placed in the bronze division individually. This group of girls had to take a written exam; present a team activity to a panel of judges; identify carcass parts, determine quality factors of bone-in further processed parts, boneless further processed parts, and shell eggs; grade and place carcasses and present a set of oral reasons; place live poultry; grade eggs on interior quality and exterior quality.
The Dairy Evaluation team placed in the bronze division this week. Team members were Kameron Cogdill, Jordan Major, and Katie Racz. These young ladies had to take a 50 question test, judge 6 classes of dairy cattle, give 3 sets of reasons, and provide a presentation on a dairy topic.
Lilly Wray participated in the Dairy Handling CDE. Lilly placed in the silver division of the contest. Her contest was based on the appearance of the handler, control of the animal, poise and calmness, and displaying a cooperative, courteous, helpful and positive attitude.
Finally, this week Clover FFA was recognized on the National stage for being 1 of only 5 chapters in the state of South Carolina to receive the 3-star National Chapter rating. This is a huge accomplishment and one we are very proud of.
