OMS Construction Projects Complete for New School Year
Oakridge Middle School (OMS) has undergone two extensive construction projects this summer to increase the school’s capacity as student enrollment numbers at the school swell.
OMS already ranks as one of the top seven middle schools in the state of South Carolina in terms of student enrollment. Current enrollment figures for the upcoming school year show 9,229 students enrolled in the district, an increase of 396 over last school year.
The first construction project was the conversion of two collaboration spaces into two classrooms each. By breaking these large areas into smaller ones, the school gained a total of four classrooms to accommodate more students and teachers.
The second construction project was the addition of two mobile classrooms at the back of the building. These classrooms will be used for elective classes, such as French and Careers.
The Clover School District (CSD) has implemented several of these projects to maximize current facilities before the Board of Trustees approved a bond resolution for the November 8 election. Clover’s two middle schools are expected to reach their capacity faster than the high school. CMS and OMS are expected to exceed their current capacity in the 2025-2026 school year. The high school is expected to exceed its capacity in the following year (2026-2027).
The bond referendum, which will fund the construction of a second high school in the district, will also repurpose the current Ninth Grade Campus into the district’s third middle school at a minimal cost and alleviate middle school overcrowding.
