OMS Charters Future Farmers of America Chapter

South Carolina’s newest chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) is at Oakridge Middle School.

The event began with the executive board of the Oakridge Middle School chapter conducting the FFA Opening Ceremony. Officers of the new chapter include President Payton Grace Peake, Vice President Kara Quaife, Secretary Peyton Ferrell, Treasurer Eli Storms, Reporter Aksel Richert and Sentinel McKinlee Jenkins.

Chapter Adviser Erica Wearing delivered regrets from OMS Principal Will Largen, saying that Mr. Largen has spent time with the FFA students sharing “adventures in his blue jacket.” Assistant Principal Dr. Crystal Gant delivered greetings on behalf of the administration.

State leaders in the FFA program took part in the event. Troy Helms, Director of South Carolina Agricultural Education and state FFA adviser, said there was no FFA activity that was more exciting than chartering because it brings the hope of new life and opportunities. Helms spoke of the importance of agriculture in evolving to meet the challenge of a growing global population.

After the charter signing, Drake Ariail, FFA State President, shared a history of the organization. Ariail was joined by State Vice President Cally Simpson. Ariail is a freshman at Midland Technical College, and Simpson is a senior at Pendleton High School.

The ceremony was attended by Chief Academic Officer Millicent Dickey.
