Members of Lake Wylie Christian Assembly embraced this teaching from Dr. King in conducting a service project at Kinard Elementary in Clover during the MLK holiday weekend.

More than 25 church members braved cold temperatures on Saturday, Jan. 14, to refresh the Myrna Kosko Memorial Butterfly Garden on Kinard’s campus. Volunteers ranged in age from toddlers to retirees.The group surfaced stepping stones buried in the dirt and pine straw and repurposed them into a wider, lined walkway. They installed new bird houses and painted and sealed colorful lawn decorations. Additionally, they added beautiful outdoor lighting to the garden. 

The event was organized by Outreach Pastor Ray Scott. In addition to gathering volunteers for this service project, Scott also contacted local businesses for donations of materials and supplies. Lowe’s donated more than $2,000 worth of exterior lighting products, while Tractor Supply donated wooden poles to support the new bird houses. The men's ministry also provided breakfast for the volunteers.
