Students, staff and community leaders came together this morning to break ground on renovation projects at Clover High School.

Clover High School has already been renovated 10 times. The latest round of improvements include the construction of a new athletic field house, as well as updates to the commons area, library, and tennis courts. The renovations are being funded through the capital projects funds and were not a part of the bond referendum approved by voters in November. 

Today’s program opened with the presentation of colors by the Air Force Junior ROTC. Student Council President Lacy Emma Gibson led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Choraliers sang the National Anthem, while the Bands of Clover performed the Alma Mater. The invocation was delivered by Emory Woodruff of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. 

Board of Trustees Chairman Rob Wallace welcomed invited guests to the CHS campus. “While we know the campus will be getting some relief from overcrowding with the opening of the district’s second high school, we also realize that Clover High School will continue to be a vibrant hub in our community and demands our attention,” Wallace said.

Superintendent Sheila Quinn delivered remarks about the construction project. “Some residents have expressed concerns to me about how Clover High School will compare with the new high school we will begin constructing shortly, “ Quinn said. “While it is challenging for a community to go from one high school to two, my emphatic response is always the same. Clover High School has a long and rich tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, the arts and extracurricular activities. Those traditions are not going away and will only be strengthened by having facility improvements that support our programming. Meanwhile, that new school across town will have many lessons to learn from CHS about how to initiate and build the excellence that has been repeatedly demonstrated at this site for the last 46 years. As a matter of fact, we will be celebrating Clover High School’s 50th anniversary in the same year that the new high school opens.”

The program concluded with Board of Trustees members donning hard hats and picking up shovels to ceremonially turn the dirt to kick off the construction project.
