Bolin Named CTE Administrator of the Year
Carrie Bolin, Principal of Clover High School’s Applied Technology Campus (ATC), has been named the 2023 South Carolina Career and Technical Education (CTE) Administrator of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA).
The announcement was made Wednesday, March 8, during the Combined OCTE/CTEA Spring Professional Development Workshop in Columbia. Bolin will be formally recognized this spring in several ways. She will be honored at the State House, at the SCASA Awards Dinner in May and at the 2023 Innovative Ideas Institute in June.
Bolin has been the ATC principal for five years. The award application asked Bolin to write about various challenges she has faced as a CTE administrator. Bolin discussed shifting the mindset about CTE so that students, staff and community members saw the courses as pathways to meaningful careers right out of high school. Under her leadership, course sequences and progressions were created and tweaked to see a steady rise in the percentage of students who achieve “completer” status by taking the highest level course in a subject and being deemed “Career Ready.” CTE completers have now increased to a record-high of 202, and graduates earned over 1,130 career-ready industry certifications.
Prior to taking over the Clover School District CTE program in 2018, Bolin was the Director of the District Technology Center in York School District 1. She also has experience teaching in CTE classrooms in Fort Mill and in Clover.
Bolin holds a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Education and a Masters of Science in Agricultural Education from Clemson University and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. The entirety of Bolin’s educational career has been spent in York County.
