Liberty Hill Elementary Principal Shavon O'Brien took her first tour of the new school's construction site today.
Leitner Management Group's Jon Hathaway took O'Brien on a gator tour of both the Lake Wylie High School and Liberty Hill Elementary School sites to illustrate the orientation of the two campuses and the traffic flow.
O'Brien then walked through the halls of the school's core facility, including the office, media center and cafe/gym/auditiorium.
Liberty Hill Elementary is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2026.
The first Summer Culinary Arts Camp for rising 5th, 6th and 7th graders is currently underway.
A group of 24 students is gathering each day this week to learn kitchen safety and cooking techniques from Chef Scott Michaw of the Center for Career Innovation.
Today's menu includes pizza with handmade dough and garlic knots. The lesson focused on effectively using yeast to make the dough rise.
Shavon O’Brien has been appointed to become the first principal of Liberty Hill Elementary School.
O’Brien has been the principal of Bethel Elementary since 2018. Prior to joining CSD, she was an assistant principal at Mount Holly Middle School and Southwest Middle School, both in Gaston County Schools in North Carolina. She served as an Instructional Facilitator at North Belmont Elementary School, also in Gaston County, and as a first grade teacher at Pineville Elementary School in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School District. O’Brien holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary and early childhood education and a Master’s of Education degree in elementary education with technology, both from Clarion University in Pennsylvania. She earned her administrative licence from Wingate University in North Carolina. Ms. O’Brien is a strong instructional leader who uses data to drive learner outcomes and encourages a student-centered learning environment,” reported Superintendent, Dr. Sheila Quinn. She has a positive relationship with many of the families and students who will most likely attend Liberty Hill Elementary School.
“I am incredibly honored to be named the principal of Liberty Hill Elementary School, and I’m excited to become part of this vibrant and growing school community. As we begin this new chapter together, my commitment is to build strong relationships, foster a culture of trust and collaboration, and create a learning environment where every student can thrive. I look forward to working hand in hand with families, educators, and the wider community to lay a strong foundation for success,” O’Brien said.
Clover School District will open on a one-hour delay, tomorrow, Thursday, January 23, 2025. While roads are relatively clear at this time, we believe the delay will improve visibility where any icy patches are concerned.
Start times for tomorrow will be as follows:
Elementary Schools–8:35 a.m.
Middle Schools–9:00 a.m.
High Schools–10:00 a.m.
We encourage all families to take necessary safety precautions when traveling to school tomorrow.
Due to frigid temperatures and worsening weather conditions especially on our side roads, all CSD schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22. CSD will conduct an E-Learning Day on Monday, February 17, to make up for tomorrow’s closure. Details about the E-Learning Day will be forthcoming, but please know that we are aware that families may have made plans for intercession. Stay safe and warm and enjoy your snow day.
Out of an abundance of caution, Clover School District (CSD) has canceled all afternoon and evening activities on our campuses beginning at 5 p.m. today. Our community is under a winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. today through 9 a.m. tomorrow.
CSD will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22. This delay will allow our staff to evaluate conditions in the morning to determine whether we can open safely or whether it will be necessary to cancel school and plan for an inclement weather make-up day on Monday, February 17.
Clover School District (CSD) will transition to asynchronous E-Learning on Friday, January 10, 2025, to ensure the safety of students and staff as Winter Storm Cora approaches our area. Parents will receive direct information from their school on the details around the eLearning Day.
An Asynchronous E-Learning Day means that students will not log on for live instruction from their teachers. Instead, students will complete assignments posted to Canvas (the district’s online learning management system) or provided in paper packets for our youngest learners. The asynchronous format provides families with the greatest flexibility in how and when their students complete the assignments because students are not required to be online at any specific time. Staff will be available for office hours between 8:00 am - 11:30 am should your child need support locating or completing the assignments .
Students have up to five days from Friday, January 10, to complete their work in order to be counted present for the missed day of school. All work should be completed and turned in by Friday, January 17, 2025.
All athletic events have been cancelled for both Friday, January 10, and Saturday, January 11. Details about when these events will be rescheduled will be shared shortly.

Parents who indicated that their children needed bus service when they registered their children for the 2024-2025 school year should have received emails earlier today with their children's bus route and schedule information. Parents were sent two emails--one with details for the morning route and a second with details of the afternoon route. Parents who did not receive these emails should contact their child's school.
