Fifth graders at Griggs Road Elementary traveled back in time today to visit the Roaring ‘20s.
Students rotated through stations, giving them a chance to experience different social, cultural, business and economic aspects of life during this decade.
In one room, students learned about the women’s suffrage movement. In another, they introduced a bit of 21st century technology to produce their own black and white silent films on their iPads. In the hallway, they studied jazz musicians and writers of the Harlem Renaissance period. One station was devoted to comparing and contrasting the fashions worn in the Victorian era and the 1920s. One classroom was transformed into a factory that implemented some of the first assembly line production. In another classroom, students calculated the math of losses and gains in the stock market, ahead of its 1929 crash. Perhaps the most intriguing room was the speakeasy. After offering a password, students entered a darkened room, where they enjoyed “prohibited” soda and snacks. When the snacks were finished, they learned how to dance the Charleston.
Fifth grade teachers at Griggs Road are Amy Snyder, Lauren Spencer, Anna Stallings and Samantha McCarter.

During National Agriculture Week, we celebrate the outstanding Agriculture education programs at the Applied Technology Center and middle schools. Thanks for teaching our students about the importance of farming and its role in our nation's food supply.

Y'all ready to build?
Fourth graders from Griggs Road Elementary visited the Applied Technology Center's (ATC) Engineering class today to take part in a joint project.
While all CSD schools are handicapped accessible, the students noticed that a classmate in a wheelchair was experiencing difficulty getting to the playground. The students proposed a ramp for the area, and the Engineering students created a design for it.
Today, the Griggs Road students worked alongside the Engineering students to construct the ramp.
Abigail Cameron is the teacher at Griggs Road. Wayne Williams is the teacher at the ATC.

During Women's History Month, Clover School District salutes the important contributions women make each day in our local community.

Based on the most recent update we have received, Clover School District (CSD) will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, March 5. We apologize for the late decision, but we have monitored conditions throughout the evening to consider the most recent forecasts.
Operations staff will continue to monitor conditions as the storm approaches to determine whether the delay would need to transition into a cancellation. If this becomes necessary, we will notify staff and families as quickly as possible.

CSD is currently monitoring a line of severe thunderstorms scheduled to pass through our area tomorrow morning between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. This timing is especially problematic for our morning bus routes and commuters. As of right now, CSD plans to operate on a regular schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5. We will be consulting with emergency management officials and weather services throughout the evening and early morning hours. We will notify families and staff if conditions require us to modify our operational plans for tomorrow.

Laissez les bon temps rouler!
In honor of Mardi Gras, students at the Ninth Grade Campus in Dr. Shannon Godwin's class delivered presentations about how Mardi Gras and Shrove Tuesday are observed in countries around the world.
Of course, Shrove Tuesday and Mardi Gras are always a great excuse for pancakes! The students organized the supplies and equipment to serve up pancakes in their classroom after the presentations.

CSD celebrates its award-winning band and choral programs during the 40th observance of "Music in Our Schools Month."
