As a Special Olympics Unified Champion School, the students in Clover High School’s Unified Sports class participated in a whole school engagement activity by learning about and promoting the Spread the Word Campaign. The students learned about advocacy and inclusion for students with intellectual disabilities and had an opportunity to reflect on how they themselves and CHS as a whole are inclusive. They developed their leadership skills and took ownership of this project by hanging flyers throughout the school and running a pledge table on National Activation Day, March 6. At the table, Unified Sports students told their peers about inclusion. They encouraged students and staff to take a “pledge to include” and to stand against the use of derogatory language targeted at individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The Oakridge Middle FFA Chapter was named SC Middle School State Champions in the FFA State Horse Evaluation Career Development Event (CDE). Team members include Gracyn Fite, Gabriella Ortiz, Parker Brittain and Shivani Prakash. The team competed at the SC Equine Park in Camden. More than 120 middle and high school FFA members were in attendance. The Horse Evaluation CDE tests students' knowledge of equine science through a written identification test (equipment, breeds, anatomy), a team problem solving activity, and the evaluation and ranking of horses based on breed, conformation, and performance. Participants then must defend their rankings through oral reasons given before a panel of judges.
